Graduate Student Travel Support​

With the support of CRM, the Fields Institute, and PIMS grants are available to partially fund the travel and accommodation costs for bona fide graduate students at a Canadian or other university and CMS student members.  Click here to become a CMS Student Member.

Preference is given to Canadian students. To apply for this funding, applicants should ask their supervisor or departmental graduate adviser to complete the online application form no later than March 30.

Applicants will be notified late in April of the funding decision. If successful, the student will receive a cheque for reimbursement of expenses after the meeting and upon completion and submission of the standard Travel Expense Claim Form, along with appropriate original receipts.

Student Poster Session

Organizers: Yuliya Nesterova (Queen’s University) , Asmita Sodhi
(Dalhousie University), Amar Venga (Western University) , Sébastien Lord (Ottawa)

Students are encouraged to present a poster with a topic of their choice on Saturday, June 5th. To register for the poster session, the abstract has to be submitted and registration has to be paid by May 1.

Setup will take place on Friday, June 4th starting at 3:00 pm, or on Saturday, June 5th before 8:30 am. Presenters are asked to give a short (~3min) presentation to the judges and remain at their posters during judging to answer questions. The winners will be announced following the judging time period. Prizes are awarded at the banquet on Sunday, June 6th to the three best poster presenters, based on content, organization, and presentation. 

Prior to the banquet, each winner will receive two complimentary tickets to the banquet as well as $100 and a framed award certificate.

Delegates can simply show their conference badge to access discounts for them and a guest at participating attractions, restaurants, and tours

Student Research Talks Session

Organizers: Adèle Bourgeois (University of Ottawa) , Yuliya Nesterova (Queen’s University), Amar Venga (Western University), Daniel Zackon (University of Toronto)

Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit an abstract for a 20 minute talk. All research areas in pure and applied math, statistics and math education will be considered. Students that would like to give a talk must submit their abstract to the organizers by sending an email to before April 30th. Notice of acceptance will be given by May 4th.

Student Social

Saturday June 5, 2021 20:00- late

The CMS Student Committee (STUDC) invites all student participants at the 2021 CMS Summer Meeting to its Student Social. A chance for the students to network and interact in a non-academic setting in a relaxed atmosphere buoyed by food and icebreaker activities. Mathematically-themed games are also planned. More details to come. The student social usually attracts about 20-30 students.

The Social will take place at 8 PM. More details to follow

Tea with Teachers

(Queen’s University), Asmita Sodhi (Dalhousie University)

The inaugural Tea With Teachers event seeks to bring together gr.1-12 teachers and university students at all stages of their careers in the hopes of building a stronger bridge and more opportunities for collaborations between the two communities. 

Students are natural ambassadors of mathematics, and many have significant commitments to outreach, camps, and training organizations which in turn nurture their younger counterparts. On the other hand, teachers are experts on the various questions and requests the young mathematicians-in training might have, be it concerning math education, career opportunities, or other. 

We hope all parties will benefit from this event!
